On this page I will have a guest writer for every week until the end of the NFL season. This week my guest is a very good friend of mine Angelo Solorio, who is 18 years old and is now attending GCC, in Williamstown, NJ where he is taking communications as his major. Though he resides in Williamstown he has basically lived in South Philly all his life and is a huge Eagles fan. I hope you enjoy his work as much as I do.

Attention, McNabb Doubters!!

After a third straight loss in the NFC Title game, this past spring was figured to be one of anguish and frustration. There was no way this team could overcome the same struggles and be as good as they have been in the past, right?  Think again.  Instead Andy Reid has given Eagles fans unbelievably high expectations for this team once more.

The acquisitions of Terrell Owens and Jevon Kearse were great.  Add in the returns of former Eagles Jeremiah Trotter and Hugh Douglas and this Eagles team had fans spinning out of control.  However, recently some doubters have been criticizing someone not deserving of it, especially on the eve of a season in which a trip to the Super Bowl is prominent. Yes, the person I am talking of is our quarterback and leader Donovan McNabb.

Throughout the entire off season the complainers stayed quiet, too quiet.  My guess is that some of them were suffering from shock after an unusual off-season.  Just recently those people drifted out of shock but I’m sorry to say they are now suffering from what appears to be amnesia.  Yes, they have once again forgotten what Donovan McNabb has done for the Eagles since he was drafted in 1999.

They have forgotten that in his first year as a starter he lead the Eagles to the playoffs with two receivers that didn’t even deserve to be on the field.  By the way, have you heard of Torrence Small and Charles Johnson since? Have we forgotten the handful of games that McNabb has won with his own will and determination alone?  He has competed as hard as he possibly could in every game he has played in up to this point.  They must have forgotten that game in Jacksonville in which McNabb played his guts out, literally!  Yes, he played so hard that he actually vomited several times on the field toward the end of the game, but he didn’t miss one snap.

The criticism is nothing new to McNabb.  He has taken every shot thrown at him very humbly up to this point.  They say he isn’t accurate enough and he’s missed his chance to win a Super Bowl, well let me tell you something.  It isn’t all about accuracy, it’s about winning games and do you realize Hall of Fame QB John Elway didn’t hoist the Lombardi trophy until the end of his career.  This article does not go out to everyone.  I know very well that McNabb has a lot of supporters in this city.  However, there are always a few bad eggs and those people are who I am trying to get this point across too.

Well here it is.  This is McNabb’s year to show everyone that he has what it takes.  He has a pro bowl type receiver in his arsenal and I believe he will lead this team to a great season.  McNabb understands what lies ahead.  “I know what our expectations are,” McNabb said, “so I am not going to try to diminish the expectations of others”.
